Washington, DC, December 14, 2022 — The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) received the Community Partner of the Year Award by the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health (Milken Institute SPH) for NACCHO’s long-standing support of George Washington University’s (GW) students, faculty, and staff. The honor was presented at the First Annual Community Partner Recognition and Award Ceremony on December 14, 2022, at the Milken Institute SPH. NACCHO is the voice of the country’s nearly 3,000 local health departments.
“Special community partners like NACCHO host our students for their practicums, internships, and culminating experiences. The leaders at NACCHO have gone above and beyond to support our students, faculty, and staff to train the next generation of the public health workforce, to improve community health outcomes, and to change lives,” said Lynn R. Goldman, M.D., M.S., M.P.H., Professor, Environmental and Occupational Health, Michael and Lori Milken Dean of Public Health at Milken Institute SPH.
NACCHO Chief Executive Officer Lori Tremmel Freeman, MBA, accepted the award on behalf of NACCHO. She said: “I am deeply pleased and honored that NACCHO has been recognized as Community Partner of the Year by the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. This is the first award of its kind by GW. This award recognizes community partners who have long supported the university’s students, faculty, and staff over the years. NACCHO is a long-time partner of GW. Our work includes support for hosting students for their practicums and partnering with the university on the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Public Health Scholarship Program – both of which are critical to GW’s mission of advancing population health and wellbeing and educating public health professionals.”
“I am appreciative of the entire NACCHO team – especially NACCHO’s work with HRSA and the excellent work and relationship NACCHO leaders have cultivated with Milken Institute SPH. This is certainly a well-deserved honor for the NACCHO team,” continued Freeman.
