Updates were recently made to the Department of Health and Human Services' STI Federal Action Plan homepage. A new section called "Developing the STI Federal Action Plan" provides more detail about what's been happening with the plan, the public comment process, and explains how a federal action plan differs from a national strategy.
This year, NACCHO has awarded scholarships to 4 disease intervention specialists (DIS) from local health departments to join us in the Washington, DC area and participate in the STD Engage conference in November 2019.
American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) developed a new STI screening practice manual to support family physicians educating their patients about STIs, obtaining a sexual history, and providing appropriate care. The manual features current recommendations from the AAFP, US Preventive Services Task Force, and CDC and preferred testing modalities for eight common STIs.
On September 18, 2019, Medscape published “Reimagining STI Clinics for a New Generation,” an article about efforts to fast-track clinic visits for patients who want to be tested for STIs.
