Local health departments (LHDs) are uniquely and ideally situated to conduct an assessment to better understand and respond to the COVID-19 vaccine needs of local communities.
On Tuesday, June 15, The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health—chaired by Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA)—held a hearing entitled, “Booster Shot: Enhancing Public Health Through Vaccine Legislation.”
Last week HRSA released the Building the HIV Workforce and Strengthening Engagement in Communities of Color (B-SEC) NOFO with the objective to increase the number of health professionals providing HIV care and treatment to people of color living in Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. (EHE) jurisdictions where over 50 percent of new HIV cases were identified.
On June 27th each year, we observe National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) to emphasize and encourage HIV testing. This year, the NHTD theme is “My Test, My Way,” emphasizing that there are different ways and places to get tested for HIV, including at home with a self-test.
The Trans & Gender-Affirming Care in I/T/U Facilities Strategic Vision and Action Plan, developed by the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board with support from IHS, includes information designed to ensure clinical environments serving Indigenous people are affirming for all clients, especially those who identify as trans or gender-diverse.
A new funding initiative is available from CDC to address COVID-19 related health disparities and advance health equity by expanding state, local, US territorial, and freely associated state health department capacity and services.
National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD), observed annually on February 7, is a chance to get more involved in getting the word out that HIV is preventable and treatable.
