NACCHO released a Health in All Policies success story from the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness. The department’s Center for Health Equity recently enacted a health impact assessment (HIA) program, with the goal of informing local and state policies that affect root causes of health outcomes using HIA agency wide. A new book, “Bridging Silos: Collaborating for Environmental Health and Justice in Urban Communities,” examines ways that community groups, government agencies, academic institutions, and private institutions each play a role in addressing environmental health issues and how they can collaborate to address environmental health disparities.
The New Jersey Department of Transit released a guide that is a one-stop resource for New Jersey municipalities, counties, agencies, organizations, and advocates with an interest in implementing Complete Streets in their communities.
To expand use of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), interventions to increase PrEP awareness, should encourage health care providers to discuss PrEP, destigmatize PrEP use, and promote racial/ethnic equity in PrEP access. PrEP is a daily oral pill that reduces the risk for sexual acquisition of HIV by about 99% when taken daily as prescribed.
