On May 4, 2023, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee held a hearing titled “Preparing for the Next Public Health Emergency: Reauthorizing the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA).”
Congress has held several hearings over the past year in response to the formula shortages, including one on March 28 in the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services titled, “FDA Oversight Part 1: The Infant Formula Shortage.”
As we wrap up National Public Health Week (April 3-9, 2023), I want to take a moment to say thank you and reflect on the important work done by the thousands of individuals who serve in local health departments. Thank you for all you do for your communities, but also for the nation as a whole. In my remarks below, I explain the importance of local public health.
On March 22, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions convened a hearing titled “Taxpayers Paid Billions for it: So Why Would Moderna Consider Quadrupling the Price of the COVID Vaccine?” to hear from Stéphane Bancel, CEO and Director of Moderna Inc., about the anticipated price increase of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine when it moves into the private market later this year.
Franklin County Public Health, Kent County Health Department, and Minneapolis Health Department received funding and technical assistance from national organizations to advance their efforts to reduce lead exposure and its effects through a HiAP approach.
