The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted systemic public health workforce issues that existed even before the pandemic, according to a new report from the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).
NACCHO, is excited to launch the New Local Health Official Training Program, which builds on our historically successful Survive and Thrive, a training program designed for LHOs who have been in their positions for two years or fewer.
This opportunity will advance the ability and role of statewide or state-level public health associations / organizations to support LHDs in their efforts to build health department internal and external infrastructure, and systems and performance improvement capacity.
NACCHO joined more than 100 other organizations representing public health, healthcare, research, social services, and other sectors, and released a letter to the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee opposing a committee proposal to cut $980 million from the Prevention & Public Health Fund (“the Prevention Fund”) to pay for other health legislation.
NACCHO and the Center for Public Health Systems at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health partnered to conduct an exploratory mixed-methods study to assess the content areas and learning formats that would be most effective to develop the skills necessary for success by new local health officers and examined the feasibility and desirability of a new training program.
