Developing a Crisis & Emergency Risk Communications (CERC) plan and infrastructure is an integral part of Collier County Health Departments preparedness program. Effective communication in both the public and private sectors can help ensure public trust and credibility in the health system, as well as support efforts to protect the public in the event of a hazardous incident. Timely, consistent, and accurate communication can impact how the media, public health care communities react to a crisis and/or emergency event fostering appropriate behaviors and levels of concern. The purpose of the DOH-Collier CERC Plan is to prepare and guide the Public Information Officer (PIO) in communicating information to key audiences, including the general public, before, during and after a crisis and/or emergency event.
