The Office of Preparedness & Response coordinated the purchase of amateur radio (a.k.a. "ham") communication go-kits for all Baltimore-Metropolitan Area Health Departments. This project will provide the local health departments with an additional communication tool so that they can relay messages to their medication distribution centers (also called PODs: Points-of-Dispensing), their local county Emergency Operations Center, and the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DHMH) Command Center. A step-by-step operations manual explains the need for the kits in order to enhance the response by the Public Information Office and to better communicate issues to the public during a disaster.
