An environmental surety plan should address the management of environmental hazards to public health and the environment, including contaminated media, epizootic disease, and environmental health infrastructure failure. This Environmental Health and Surety Plan from Prince William Health District covers the concept of operations, roles, responsibilities and response actions for environmental health threats including the following: Food and water safety and outbreaks; Solid waste and sanitation; Radiation, hazardous waste, and release of chemicals and other toxic substances; Air quality; Worker safety; and Animal Control. It also contains a matrix of hazards and risks to the local population and a table of applicable legal authorities. This plan was submitted in for Goal 1 of a Project Public Health Ready application in 2010 and can be used as an example by other local health departments.
