In order to remain prepared to handle emergency situations, local health department staff need to be properly trained. LHDs should conduct regular training needs assessments of their staff. The results of the training needs assessment should then be used to inform workforce development plans that identify priority training topics and plan for delivery and maintenance of trainings that address those areas. This workforce capacity development plan from Pima County Health Department demonstrates how the results of the LHD's training needs assessment were used to identify training needs. It also incorporates target capabilities and incident command system (ICS) roles. Just-in-Time Training (JITT) materials are included as well. This document was also submitted to address Goal 2 in a Project Public Health Ready application in 2010 and can be used as an example by other applicants.
