The APC Regional Workshops Tour introduces a whole new set of innovative products and events in 2011. Focusing on regions that are underrepresented at national events or lack resources to dedicate to public health all-hazards preparedness issues, the Regional Workshops make it easier for nearby local health departments to take advantage of APC products and training.

Innovative Solutions in Public Health Preparedness
The City of Milwaukee Health Department, the San Francisco Department of Public Health, and the Ware County Board of Health presented tools and resources that will be sure to fill gaps in any preparedness planning efforts. Tools showcased include:

  • Legal guidelines and templates necessary for an LHD to respond effectively during a public health emergency;
  • A toolkit to work with the business community to develop and run closed Points of Dispensing; and
  • Risk communication resources designed specifically for rural jurisdictions.

2008 APC Webinar Series
The archived APC Webinars feature the eight training programs delivered at the NACCHO APC Training Conference in February 2008. Each webcast features a brief overview of the training resources and describes how they can be used by health departments.

The free webcasts are designed for NACCHO members, public health preparedness staff, and anyone interested in public health preparedness issues. General topic areas include:

  • Innovative preparedness tools;
  • Engaging community partners in preparedness;

2009 APC Training Sessions Presented at the Public Health Preparedness Summit
APC workshops held throughout the 2009 Public Health Preparedness Summit in San Diego provided preparedness professionals with information on new and innovative best practices in public health preparedness. Topics covered in the APC workshops included:

  • Using pictograms and comics for emergency communication;
  • Tools and guidance for emergency preparedness in rural America; and
  • Preparedness planning with computer models.

2008 APC Training Conference
Held in conjunction with the Public Health Preparedness Summit, the 2008 Training Conference drew record numbers of public health preparedness professionals. Topics covered in this 2-day training included:

  • Preparing Medical Reserve Corps for POD operations;
  • Implementing an environmental health emergency response plan; and
  • Conducting a table top exercise with Master the Disaster!, the next generation of exercise builders.

2004 APC Training Conference
The first APC Training Conference, a 2-day train-the-trainer program, provided preparedness training and guidance to local health department participants and prepared them to implement the training in their own agencies. Topics covered included:

  • Enhancing laboratory response through;
  • Working effectively with the media; and
  • Using logic models to develop a strategic approach to local preparedness.
