Following the tragedies that occurred in Maine this week, we must once again renew our energy to fight this firearm-related violence from a public health perspective. NACCHO understands that this is an incredibly difficult time, especially for those residing in Maine. This type of violence affects us all. NACCHO has an active policy statement on firearm-related injury and death, and we encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with it. This violence is unacceptable, and local health departments play an important role in preventing intentional and unintentional firearm-related injury and death. Once again, our thoughts are with Maine and the people impacted by this horrible act of violence.
