Local health departments and public health preparedness professionals are invited to participate in a new live, interactive engagement series from the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS): SNS Ask the Experts.
The first session, “Considerations for Jurisdictional Stockpiling of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),” will take place on Friday, June 26, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM ET and will feature subject matter experts from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
Designed for state, local, tribal, and territorial public health, healthcare preparedness, and emergency management partners, the series offers an opportunity to connect directly with federal experts on operational preparedness and stockpiling questions. Participants can ask questions, discuss real-world challenges, and hear practical considerations that may inform local and regional planning.
This session will highlight key considerations for building, maintaining, and evaluating PPE stockpiles, including:
Regulatory and performance standards – Federal requirements and standards that can inform PPE procurement, planning, and use.
Shelf life and expiration labeling – Considerations for expiration dating, shelf-life management, and product rotation.
Product integrity and supply chain verification – Approaches for identifying authentic, high-quality PPE and reducing risks from counterfeit or substandard products.
Storage conditions and stockpile integrity – Practices for maintaining PPE quality through appropriate storage, environmental controls, and inventory management.
Local public health preparedness staff may find this session useful as they plan, maintain, or expand PPE stockpiles; coordinate with healthcare, emergency management, and other response partners; and strengthen readiness for public health emergencies.
