CDC, AmeriCorps Seek Proposals to Build a New Generation of Public Health Leaders

Sep 09, 2021 | Guest Author

AmeriCorps, in a new partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has launched Public Health AmeriCorps. The program will support the recruitment, training, and development of a new generation of public health leaders who will be ready to respond to the nation’s public health needs.

The program, which is supported by a $400 million investment from the American Rescue Plan Act, is anticipated to fund up to 5,000 AmeriCorps positions over the next five years.

AmeriCorps has released a notice of federal funding availability. The competition is open to nonprofit, faith-based and community-based organizations; higher-education institutions; state, local and territorial government entities, such as cities or counties; and Indian Tribes. New organizations are encouraged to apply for these grants.

The deadline for applications is Monday, Nov. 8, 2021 at 5:00 pm ET.

AmeriCorps is hosting several webinars for Public Health AmeriCorps applicants to answer questions about the funding opportunity and eGrants including an initial overview (offered on September 16 and October 6 at 3:00-4:00 pm ET), Performance Measures Best Practices (October 12, 2021; 2:00-3:00 pm ET); Best Practices in Budget Development (October 14, 2021; 1:30-2:30 pm ET) and Best Practices in Demonstrating Evidence (pre-recorded webinar). Details and registration links are available here.
