On November 13, 2018, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a new Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) which finds an increase in cases of Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM) in August and September 2018. Symptoms of AFM include sudden weakness of the arms or legs and the median patient age is four years. Guidance from CDC directs clinicans to report patients with acute flaccid limb weakness to their health departments.
