Through Monday, June 15, the University of Washington Center for Disaster Resilient Communities is soliciting input on updates to public health emergency preparedness and response (PHEPR) workforce competencies, informed by focus groups with practitioners and refined by an expert working group.
Background: The field of public health emergency preparedness has changed significantly with evolving approaches and priorities, including learnings from the COVID-19 pandemic response and shifts in the workforce. Accordingly, researchers at the University of Washington conducted a series of focus groups with local and state public health practitioners to explore updated PHEPR workforce competencies in the United States. The results were then refined by an expert working group composed of representatives from national public health organizations, local health departments, and universities. The research team is now seeking the input of the broader public health practice and academic communities, as well as related partners, to refine these competencies.
