The work of local health departments (LHDs) and their partners is crucial to addressing the intersected issues of overdose, injury, and violence in our communities. While the scale and nuance of the issues requires a dedicated and locally tailored response, one key role for LHDs lies in providing their communities with the knowledge and resources they need to safeguard their health. Community embrace of effective interventions such as overdose education and naloxone distribution, safe-firearm storage, or drowning awareness education makes us all safer, and it’s important that LHDs have a robust communications strategy to drive awareness of these issues and the resources available in the community.

With that being said, it’s important to acknowledge that LHDs and their staff are often stretched thin, and developing in-depth communications campaigns related to every pressing public health issue can be both expensive and time-consuming. Given this tension, NACCHO’s Overdose, Injury, and Violence Prevention workgroup is excited to announce the release of a new resource that houses a curated and regularly updated list of evidence-based communications campaign resources that can be utilized by LHDs to keep their communities informed. Many of the listed campaigns, including NACCHO’s OverdosePrevention.Love campaign, provide resources across several media formats that are designed to be adapted and rebranded to fit the needs of different communities.

For questions related to the resource list or the work of the OIVP Workgroup, please contact Francis Higgins ([email protected]).
