American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) developed a new STI screening practice manual to support family physicians educating their patients about STIs, obtaining a sexual history, and providing appropriate care. The manual features current recommendations from the AAFP, US Preventive Services Task Force, and CDC and preferred testing modalities for eight common STIs.
To expand use of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), interventions to increase PrEP awareness, should encourage health care providers to discuss PrEP, destigmatize PrEP use, and promote racial/ethnic equity in PrEP access. PrEP is a daily oral pill that reduces the risk for sexual acquisition of HIV by about 99% when taken daily as prescribed.
