World AIDS Day is recognized annually on December 1 as a day to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS, destigmatize the diagnosis, and empower those living with HIV and AIDS.
Today, as part of fulfilling its mission as the voice of local health departments, the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), representing the nation’s nearly 3,000 local governmental health departments, named Chelsea Cipriano, MPH, Executive Director, Intergovernmental Affairs at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, its 2022 Advocate of the Year.
NACCHO’s Refugees, Immigrants, and Migrants (RIM) health team supports local health departments (LHDs) in strengthening partnerships with local RIM communities to empower innovative and sustainable approaches to prevention and mitigation of COVID-19.
As chief health strategists, local health departments (LHDs) must be empowered to cultivate relationships with community partners and ensure operational plans for an all-sector response before a crisis.
NACCHO’s Federal Legislative and Policy Agenda guides the organization’s work in its interactions with federal agencies and Congress. The Agenda features NACCHO’s priority issues and is informed by local health department input and approved annually by the Board of Directors.
