The Florida Department of Health in Orange County launched an MDRO containment response to prevent the spread of unusual resistance. Point-prevalence surveys were a vital piece of this response effort and high specimen collection rates were important to establish the incidence in a facility and measure the success of interventions. To increase patient comfort level with participating in screening, DOH-Orange developed a template script and patient consent form. The script includes language to ensure that patients understand this screening is part of a public health outbreak response. These tools can be modified and tailored for use in other MDRO investigations. These were used in conjunction with other materials developed as part of a containment toolkit.
