Creating Healthy Communities by Building Partnerships between Local Health Departments and Community Organizations

Sharing Session (90 minutes)
Thursday, Jul 15
Time:
1:15 PM - 2:45 PM
Location:
Room 15
Conference Track:
Marketing to Improve Public Health Perception

Obesity rates have increased drastically over the past three decades. While this epidemic impacts all races and ethnicities, some populations are disproportionately affected. Policy and environmental changes are especially important for creating access to healthy opportunities in low-income communities and communities of color. This session will highlight the role of local health departments in working with community organizations to improve community health through policy and environmental change. Panelists will provide insight into building successful multi-sector partnerships and collaboration, and offer examples of promising practices to improve local nutrition and physical activity environments.
