Health Equity and Social Justice Coordinator Ingham County Health Department, MI
Doak Bloss is a writer, trainer, and facilitator. Since 1998 he has worked for the Ingham County Health Department (ICHD) in Lansing, Michigan, where he served as the project coordinator for Ingham Community Voices until 2002. As Health Equity and Social Justice Coordinator for ICHD, he leads a team of 20 facilitators conducting four-day workshops on health equity and social justice for the department?s employees and interested community members. His coordination of the Social Justice Project for Ingham County Health Department is detailed in a chapter of the 2007 publication, Tackling Health Inequities: A Handbook for Action, published by the National Association of City and County Health Officials, updated and re-issued in 2010 by Oxford University Press.
In 2007, Mr. Bloss co-founded the Lansing-based Facilitators Guild?a unique monthly gathering of community members interested in defining, nurturing, and building the community?s capacity to facilitate effective dialogue processes. He is a frequent presenter and trainer in Michigan and elsewhere on the use of dialogue as a vehicle for illuminating and confronting health inequity through public health practice and community organizing.
