NACCHO is Now Recruiting Reviewers for Project Public Health Ready

Jun 01, 2018

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) is currently recruiting reviewers for the Project Public Health Ready (PPHR) fall review cycle. PPHR is a criteria-based training and recognition program that assesses local health department (LHD) capacity and capability to plan for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies. Every year, local health agencies submit their applications for review; NACCHO recruits and trains reviewers from around the country to assess each application’s level of compliance with the PPHR criteria.

There are several benefits of participating in the review cycle, including:

  • Learning about innovative practices in local public health preparedness from across the country
  • Networking with other experienced public health professionals
  • Sharing your knowledge and experience with applying agencies
  • Learning about PPHR in preparation for completing your own application

Reviewing Process

PPHR reviewers work on a three-person team to assess emergency response plans from two-to-three agencies applying for PPHR recognition. This process requires approximately 50 hours of work over five weeks, plus additional time for reviewer training and conference calls with your review team and NACCHO.

Reviewers are also required to attend one in-person meeting during the week of October 15. NACCHO will cover all costs related to the in-person meeting including travel, accommodations, and meals. The location is yet to be determined.

Qualifications

PPHR reviewers must have a strong understanding of public health preparedness and response. NACCHO targets LHD personnel in particular, but qualified candidates from state health departments and other organizations will also be considered.

Although specific job positions are not required, examples of ideal candidates include public health preparedness planners and responders, training and exercise coordinators, and epidemiologists. NACCHO seeks qualified candidates from diverse professional backgrounds and geographic locations.

Interested applicants can complete a brief (five-10-minute) online survey by July 13 for consideration. Click here to complete the survey now.

Applicants will be notified of the results in July 2018.

Finally, NACCHO urges members, partners, and other stakeholders to share this opportunity with others who have public health preparedness expertise and may be interested in volunteering as a PPHR reviewer. For more information, please contact the NACCHO PPHR team.

Health agencies interested in participating in PPHR program can learn more at the Project Public Health Ready website or by contacting [email protected].
