On January 20th, 2023, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published new analysis on substance use among persons with syphilis during pregnancy.
Last week, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced the first cases of a concerning new gonorrhea strain. The new strain shows reduced response to multiple antibiotics and another case was also found that had genetic markers that indicate a similar drug response. The clinical alert from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health can be found here.
In November, the HIV, STI, Viral Hepatitis, and Harm Reduction Workgroup (HSHW) met in person, with representatives from CDC to share LHD experiences in the HIV, STI, and Harm Reduction spaces, hear of CDC priorities, and strategize together on advancing program successes and addressing program challenges.
