Earlier this week, the United States celebrated the success of The AMR Challenge during the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. Launched in September 2018, the Challenge received nearly 350 commitments from 33 countries to implement specific actions to combat antibiotic resistance (also known as antimicrobial resistance or AMR).
NACCHO is pleased to announce the release of two fact sheets highlighting the role of local health departments (LHDs) in combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and supporting antimicrobial stewardship.
Since September 2018, there have been greater than 800 mumps cases in adult migrants detained in U.S. detention facilities who are under the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Despite the availability of screening and treatment, tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading cause of preventable infectious disease deaths worldwide and disproportionately affects vulnerable populations.

Tri-County Health Department (CO) managed a mumps outbreak at a contract ICE Processing Center in Aurora, Colorado. In under one week, the facility completed universal MMR vaccination for detainees; mumps transmission ceased twelve days later.
