Washington, DC, December 16, 2022 — According to a new peer-reviewed article by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), local health departments (LHDs) were increasingly providing some level of substance use prevention services until the pandemic hit.
This new NACCHO report summarizes data collected in Summer 2021 from a nationally representative group of LHDs, and covers a number of domains critical to the ongoing response to the overdose epidemic including, but not limited to, funding, staffing, partnerships, and services offered.
New data shows that the current MPOX outbreak is disproportionately affecting people living with HIV and those experiencing homelessness. This population meets eligibility requirements for assistance through HUD’s Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) and Homeless Assistance programs.
NACCHO is seeking consultants to develop and facilitate one or more workshop sessions of a Leadership & Coaching Series for mentor local health departments participating in NACCHO’s Reducing Overdose through Community Approaches (ROCA) Mentorship Program.
This funding opportunity provides an opportunity to embed peer recovery specialists in emergency departments to improve linkages to care for people who use drugs (PWUD). Local Health Departments (LHDs), hospitals, and other community partners will design, implement, maintain, and evaluate a set of protocols to screen patients in the ED for substance use.
