The Wake County HIV/STD Community Program utilizes a multi-faceted approach to address disproportionate HIV/STD rates among African American and Latino residents. The program conducts HIV/STD testing at non-traditional testing sites in areas with high incidence rates as identified through GIS mapping, implements evidence-based education and outreach among targeted populations, and provides case management to ensure HIV positive persons are not lost to medical care. Since the implementation of the HIV/STD Community Program and its targeted testing, education and social marketing campaigns, HIV rates have remained stable, showing no increase.
