Edison Township's Asian population suffers from a significant disparity in hepatitis B infections and subsequent disease related complications. Data estimate that five to twelve percent of the Asian population may be chronically infected with hepatitis B, a majority of which is undiagnosed. The Edison Department of Health and Human Services has partnered with Gilead and the American Cancer Society to raise awareness of hepatitis B and increase testing and vaccination rates. Through education and outreach, working closely with the community and care providers, the Edison Department of Health and Human Services hopes to slow the progression of hepatitis B in infected individuals and prevent new infections.
